JIS standard global map

JIS is the Japanese national battery standard, but its reach extends wherever Japanese vehicles were exported. This page maps where JIS fitments apply — and where DIN/EN or BCI applies instead.

Data classification

This page is a structural analysis based on publicly available information about vehicle standards and battery technology. It contains no market-size, growth-rate or share figures. Any qualitative statement is marked indicative. For project-specific intelligence, contact Chengguang directly.

Where JIS applies

Based on vehicle parc origin:

Region Standard family Notes
Japan JIS Home standard
Southeast Asia JIS Largely Japanese vehicle parc
East Africa JIS Japanese vehicle imports
Oceania JIS (with AS variants) Japanese vehicle parc
Middle East (parts) JIS mixed with DIN Depends on parc origin
Southern Africa JIS + DIN Mixed parc

Where DIN/EN applies

Region Standard family
Europe DIN / EN
North Africa DIN / EN
West Africa (Francophone) DIN / EN

Where BCI applies

Region Standard family
North America BCI group sizes
Parts of the Gulf BCI alongside others

The practical point

The battery standard a market uses is a consequence of the vehicles in it — not of geography or language. For an importer, the first move is to identify the dominant standard family in the target market, then stock to it.

JIS, DIN and BCI cases are not interchangeable even where dimensions are close: hold-down mechanism, terminal type and polarity differ. See the standard guides for details.

How to use this page

Use it to frame questions for your own market research and supplier conversations — not as a substitute for primary data. Confirm standard fitment, certification and vehicle parc against your own market.
